Grants for communities affected by quarrying
If you live in an area affected by quarrying, you and your community group could get your hands on some funds for a new community project.
COMMA – the Community Aggregates Fund – has just been launched by the national rural development charity, Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) and the Rural Community Action Network (RCAN). This Defra-sponsored programme will run for three years, with funding secured from the aggregates levy on quarries.
Communities are encouraged to apply for funding through their local RCAN representative and could receive grants of between £3,000 and £20,000 for community-based events or projects, such as improvements to local facilities or environmental initiatives.
For those interested in applying during the 2008-09 funding round, completed application forms should be sent to the correct Rural Community Councillor before the 7th November 2008.
